baltimore public art
Commissioned by the City of Baltimore as part of the overall Hartford Bridge replacement project, this public arts project means to transform a pedestrian tunnel into a site of both passage and pause. What begins as infrastructure becomes an instrument — concrete calibrated to the body, its surface undulating to welcome stretch, rest, or simple encounter.
The work embeds utility into public art. Cast in place along the tunnel’s length, the piece invites use as much as observation — part bench, part terrain, part prompt for gathering.
Here, a dark and underused corridor linking two parks becomes a field of engagement. Through subtle interventions of use and light, the space shifts from conduit to commons — an illuminated hinge between movement and stillness.
