civic art extension
This project followed directly from our larger el Cerrito del Norte installation on the same building. The main work carried the weight of being a singular gesture; the challenge here was to address secondary building edges and voids without competing with or diluting that impact.
Our approach wasn’t to replicate, but to extend. We borrowed the same fabrication intelligence — CNC-cut and folded aluminum and modular efficiency — and redeployed it as a more restrained, service-oriented system. Instead of spectacle, the infill panels deliver durability, ease of installation, and a subtle play of light and shadow that animates the pedestrian experience.
The result is a second act that supports the building without imitation:
Strategic restraint: keeping the main artwork singular while ensuring continuity of language.
Fabrication discipline: carrying forward proven processes and material fidelity.
Practical service: a lightweight, cost-effective system designed for straightforward installation.
Everyday engagement: surfaces that shift with light and movement along the greenway.
